These are good lights for a pathway. They are definitely not bright enough to light a large portion of the yard, however, even after hours of direct sunlight. You can use the provided stakes to place them in the ground or mount them on a structure with enclosed hardware. They will swivel up and down and also rotate in the stake so that you can position the light in whatever direction you wish. I have them set to stay off unless motion is detected. This feature works well, but the light only stays on for about 30 seconds. These would be great to light up an entryway or sidewalk where people will be passing through (but you may need more than four lights, depending on how long the walkway is). I wanted them to light up the corner of my yard for the kids to play in the evening, and they are not great for that purpose. However, I will probably keep them because they are handy to have around and easily movable using the stakes.
